What is the GSMA blacklist and how does it work?

The GSMA blacklist (also called the IMEI blacklist or lost/stolen database) is a global registry of mobile devices reported as lost, stolen, or involved in fraud.

    How devices get blacklisted

When a phone owner reports their device lost or stolen to their carrier, the carrier adds the IMEI to the GSMA database. Once blacklisted, the device cannot be activated on most mobile networks worldwide — even with a different SIM card.

Can a blacklisted phone be un-blacklisted?

Only the original owner who reported it, or the carrier that added it, can remove a device from the blacklist. Third-party services claiming to "remove blacklist" are often scams. Always verify IMEI status before purchasing any used device.

    How to check blacklist status

Enter the 15-digit IMEI into our free checker tool. Results typically include carrier information, blacklist status, and device model details within seconds.

    Important note

A clean IMEI check at time of purchase does not guarantee the device will stay clean forever. If the original owner later reports it stolen, it can still be blacklisted. Buy from reputable sellers and keep your receipt.
